QatQi, My New Game, is getting Amazing Reviews

did I mention the graphics and audio are both pretty sweet? I can’t tell if the letter background is supposed to be tiled peacock feathers or a roulette wheel, but whatever it is, it’s cool.
— Wired Geekdad
QatQi is a roguelike with words, and by the time it dawns, this ferociously smart game will have you hooked.
— Edge
It’s challenging and addictive fun but what makes it even better is the thought that has gone into the design. I’ve been playing QatQi for a week and I’m addicted
— Shane Richmond, The Daily Telegraph.
With visual trimmings by the same artist who worked on Osmos, QatQi looks as good as it plays. If you’re into word games, be sure to give this one a shot....and it’s a looker, too. There’s a familiarity to its stylings, a psychedelic bubbliness that was last seen in Osmos . Coincidently, the game’s artist is Kun Chang, who worked on that very title.
— Toucharcade
Just when you think there can’t be much more new ground to be broken in the word-games genre, along comes something like QatQi
— The Guardian
QatQi seems like a game that should have never been made. That’s not to say it’s bad; actually, it’s so original, we can’t believe someone thought it up.

Osmos at MoMa

I was in NYC at the Museum of Modern Art in early October for the opening of the Exhibition Common Senses where Osmos is featured.

It was great to see Andy and Eddy again - Especially now that Eddy is living on the other side of the country and I rarely get to see him.

By the way, the checkered shirts were not planned ;-)

Watch Dogs Blows Away the E3 Crowd

One of my jobs was working with Danny Marcoux and Jean-Philippe Leroux on the lighting for this shot.

Watch Dogs was finally revealed at E3 winning tons of nominations and awards. This is the super secret project I have been working on for the last 6 months. I directed the opening and all of the cinematics and also worked as a realization director on the demo.

Kit Bashing With my Nephews

I picked up some cheap plastic model sets and with the creative input of my 4 and 7 year old nephews (hence the many guns and missiles) we set out to destroy the original planes and create something else.

This was one way we designed pod-racers on Star Wars and it was a lot of fun to do again.

"Growing Osmos" at the Apple Store.

Eddy Boxeman and I gave a small talk about how we created and designed Osmos and took it from a rough idea on Eddy’s PC to the iPad and winning the Apple Design award. (if you look back in the posts here you will see a screenshot of an early version)

It was a great evening and it was really interesting to have to dig up old drawings and sketches and see how far we had come.

Directing Episodical Television in Maine

I took a weeklong workshop at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine. The class was with Peter Markle, director of a number of TV shows like Rescue Me and The X-files. If you look closely you can see me directing from inside the shadows of the van. It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. I would love the chance to work more on episodical dramas.

Working at Ubisoft (Far Cry 3)

I updated this post with the final version of the sequence that I worked on.

I’ve been quiet on my website lately - I worked on Avatar (the game) this autumn as a director. (I was on the game for the last 10 weeks). Then I went travelling and now that I am back I’m working on Far Cry 3 - as a Realization and Performance Director. I'm especially working on the hallucinogenic scenes.

Osmos selling like Hot Bread

Osmos is out and wow we are getting amazing reviews - head over to Hemishphere Games to check it out.

Again, as I mentioned before. I was part of a very small team working on this game - Me, Art Director

Here are some of the reviews:

Lots of great Osmos reviews and coverage have been flooding in:

beyond doubt, a work of genius… a relaxing, meditative experience about going with the flow… very ethereal feel to the design… It all adds up to something otherworldly and just . . . incredible.
— GameAndPlayer.net
8.5/10 - Editor’s Choice Award - a beautiful, absorbing experience… brilliant to look at… the best videogame music I’ve heard… will make you forget your cares and immerse you in the game… you’ll find yourself returning for the experience.
— IGN
88% - The most relaxing game in the whole (c)osmos. Ranging from a simple pleasure cruise to a edge-of-the-seat skill-based game, this is definitely worth the low US$9.99 pricetag - you’d expect to pay this much just for the soundtrack - and if my experience has proven anything it’s that you’ll keep coming back to it time and time again.
— Atomic MPC
wonderful gameplay… beautifully polished and tantalisingly atmospheric… Osmos mixes puzzle, action and strategy remarkably and all the while does it with great finesse and style
— Indiegames.com
fascinating… an absolute blast to play… creative, entertaining, and calming all in one go… It is easily worth your $10
